Ft
Lauderdale Rugby Football Club, “The Knights” start there forth year in Division 1
Club
president, Martin Gardner reports that the club has been building its
infrastructure, financial resources and player pool. Our improvement over the
last couple of seasons has been very impressive, but the level of competition in
the Division II pool in Florida is too limited and is going to restrict future
growth and development. For this reason we’ll forgo the chance of playing for
the DII National Championship and jump to DI now to ensure the growth of our
club.
The
Knights host one of the top 15’s tournaments in the USA,
which is held the last weekend
of February and attracts Super League, top women’s DI teams and very strong
men’s and Old Boys sections.
The
Club has also concluded an agreement with the City of Ft Lauderdale to
provide a dedicated rugby field, with international standard posts and pitch
size.
With
High School rugby now also established in our county we can look forward to a
steady supply of good, enthusiastic, and experienced young players going
forward, but we will need to recruit to be competitive the next couple of
seasons.
The Club is always looking
for new players with or with out experience. If you have an interest in playing
for the Fort Lauderdale Rugby Club, please contact us at
newplayer@ftlrugby.com and we will respond with any info you
need.
With
these steps in place, we’re ready to go, and don’t forget we have the most
beautiful winter weather in which to play.
