FTL @ Miami Match Report

What a great way to start off our spring season! We have had back to back wins. First 30-20 against Boca. This weekend we beat Miami RFC 32-16.

The Miami game was a good, hard-fought game. We jumped ahead in the first 20 minutes leading 10 – 0. After this, our penalties started catching up with us, making two penalty kicks. After this, Miami scored, bringing the score to 13 – 10. Our next unconverted try brought the score to 15 – 13. A Lauderdale Player was sent to the sin bin resulting in one more Miami penalty kick for a halftime score of 16-15. The Fort Lauderdale defense stepped up to the plate playing a man down and held Miami to 0 points. In the last 20 minutes, fitness started to kick in and Fort Lauderdale ran the score up to 32 – 16. Tries were scored by Robin, Tuli, and Treasure as well as several penalty kicks. All of this happened while Miami was punching and biting our players (props had several bite marks on their arms) but Fort Lauderdale did not retaliate. I’m very proud of this as well.

Last year, we had difficulty finishing games. We would be doing well at halftime, but we always seemed to lose in the last 20 minutes. I blame that on poor fitness. This year, our fitness has improved and we are running up points at the end of games. I’m proud of all of the guys for all of the hard work they’ve put in and their dedication to the team. We are traveling with good numbers to away games and supporting at home games. Numbers have been good for the most part at practice as well.
